Avalon chooses new mayor

&emsp;&emsp;In a special meeting Wednesday evening, Avalon Council chose from among two former mayors to fill the vacancy in that office created by the recent death of Mayor Tom Lloyd.&emsp;&emsp;Former mayors Brigitte Jackson and Dan Bricmont applied for the position. Jackson previously filled the seat for about six months when former mayor Dave Haslett resigned, then lost to Lloyd in the election that would have given her a four-year term. Bricmont served as mayor from 1994 to 2006.&emsp;&emsp;In choosing Jackson, council members agreed that while Bricmont seemed willing to step up at a time when the borough needed a mayor, Jackson has remained very active in the borough and school district and showed enthusiasm for a longterm commitment to the position.&emsp;&emsp;The appointment fills the vacancy through December of 2023. Jackson, pictured with council president Shawn McWilliams, was sworn in by McWilliams following the vote.
