Emsworth to address short term rentals

&emsp;&emsp;A public hearing concerning proposed Ordinance No. 1008 will be held via Zoom before the Dec. 9, 6:30 p.m., Borough of Emsworth Council Meeting.&emsp;&emsp;The ordinance will amend portions of the Emsworth Code concerning short term rentals of a dwelling, restricting such rental use only to areas zoned R-3 (mixed use residential) as well as stating reporting requirements for the owners of the dwellings.&emsp;&emsp;The ordinance addresses such short term rentals of residential dwellings such as AirBnB and VRBO, which have emerged as popular accommodations for travelers, tourists, and short term transient tenants.&emsp;&emsp;The purpose of the ordinance is to maintain the benefits and sense of community found in R-1 (single household residential) and R-2 (multi-household residential) zoning districts from the possible deleterious impact of transient lodgers of for-profit commercial uses of residential properties as short-terms rentals.&emsp;&emsp;A short term rental will be defined as a dwelling unit rented for less than thirty consecutive days by the owner for compensation. The property owner will be subject to reporting requirements including providing information, in writing, to the borough secretary.
