Margaret Nichols Margaret A. Owens Nichols, 85, of Emsworth, died Friday, March 12, 2010. She was survived briefly by her husband, Robert E. Nichols; two children, Donald Nichols and his wife Roberta and Alice Hoffmaster and her husband Russell; and nieces and nephews. Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon, where services were held on Monday.Robert Nichols Robert E. Nichols, 86, of Emsworth, husband of the late Margaret A. Owens Nichols, died Friday, March 12, 2010. He is survived by two children, Donald Nichols and his wife Roberta and Alice Hoffmaster and her husband Russell; his sister, Luella Davis of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon, where services were held on Monday.Clyde Brooks Clyde S. Brooks, 82, of St. Barnabas in Gibsonia, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, Houston, TX and Bellevue and husband of the late Ruth Bolton Brooks, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Mr. Brooks was a 1940 graduate of Duke University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Pi Mu Epsilon fraternities. Between 1946 and 1949, he did his post graduate studies at Carnegie Institute. Under the auspices of a Koppers Co. fellowship, he worked at Mellon Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard LST 49 as the executive officer navigator and communications officer in the Pacific Theatre between 1944 and 1946 with the rank of lieutenant jg, and in the Naval Reserve, where he retired as lieutenant commander in 1969. He worked as a chemist for Shell Development Co. in Houston, United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, CT and his own consulting firm, Recycle Metals of Glastonbury, CT. He authored "Metal Recovery from Industrial Waste," and held three patents. He had published and presented many articles, mainly in the field of catalysis. He was an active member of Ingomar Methodist Church and in professional associations including Sigma XI, American Chemical Society, Emeritus Fellow and many others. In 1984, he was appointed by then Gov. William A. O'Neil to a task force to classify hazardous waste. He was active in many environmental organizations and an avid photographer, water colorist and hiker. He is survived by two children, Suzanne B. Taylor and her husband Jeff of Jefferson, NC and Phillip L. Brooks and his wife Jan of Wexford; four grandchildren, Carter T. Seaton and her husband John, Ashley M. Taylor and her husband Philemon I. Barau, Jordan P. Brooks and Mollie A. Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Redekah Barau and Jack T. Seaton; and his niece, Joan M. Webb. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Webb. A memorial service will be held in Ingomar United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 20, at 2 p.m. Burial was private. Memorials are suggested to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Mrs. Ingold was a 1938 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science degree in geography. She was an active member of Christian Science Church in Avalon for many years. She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Kim and David Wesley Ingold. She was preceded in death by two children, Skylar and Sherrie. Friends were received at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon, where services were held on Saturday. Burial was in Allegheny County Memorial Park. Mr. Dobransky was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn M. Charnock Dobransky; two children, Deborah J. Dobransky and her husband John Sale of Memphis, TN and William J. Dobransky and his wife Marie E. of Gibsonia; and four grandchildren, Max Sale, Michael, Miranda and Cole Dobransky. Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon, until the time of services on Monday.Roy Cress Roy H. Cress, 79, of Sewickley, died Friday, March 12, 2010. Mr. Cress was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a 1949 graduate of Sewickley High School and had attended Westminster College. In 1995, he retired from Sewickley Water Authority with 37 years of service. He was a member of St. James Church and American Legion Post #450, and a life member of Sewickley VFW Post #5756.He is survived by his wife, Margaret Fluskey Cress; his sister, Donna Cress of Bellevue; three nieces and a nephew, Debbie Dillinger, Denise Stetzer and her husband Mark, Diane and Douglas Dillinger; and other nieces and nephews. He was the granduncle of Alicia and Joseph Stetzer and Arina Dillinger;. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy N. and Ida M. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served as an officer and baker. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Banjo Club.He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Ehrler; his daughter, Daryl Lynn Ehrler and her husband Ron Miller; his sister, May Inderbitzen; and nieces and nephews.
