Helen Schmalzl Helen Herzlieb Schmalzl, 90, of Avalon, wife of the late Albert Schmalzl, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Mrs. Schmalzl was a member of the Church of the Assumption Christian Mothers and an active member of the Sewickley YMCA. She is survived by three children, Helen Schmalzl, William Schmalzl and his wife Patricia and Richard Schmalzl and his wife Mary; and six grandchildren, Greg, Max, Alex, Evelyn, Will and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Herzlieb. Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Saturday. Jackson Ave., Bellevue, PA 15202.Fred Sharp Fred Irwin Sharp, 90, of Sewickley, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011. Mr. Sharp was a 1942 graduate of Colgate University and a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and flew 72 combat missions in P-47s during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He worked in advertising at Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborn and retired in 1970 as vice president and a member of the board of directors. He then started Computer Shopping Services, then joined H.J. Heinz Co. in 1973, where he worked until 1987 in strategic planning, business development and acquisitions. He subsequently started a consulting business focused on new business strategies for major food companies until 2007. He is survived by his wife, Carol Williams Sharp; two daughters, Kimberly Fierst and her husband Lawrence of Ben Avon Heights and Lisa Hord of Pelham, NY; and three grandchildren, Molly Williams Hord, Sophie McCullough Hord and Jackson Sharp Hord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Florence Dey Sharp; and his son-in-law, Montgomery Hord. A memorial service will be held in Presbyterian Church in Sewickley on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association, 810 River Ave., Suite 140, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Arrangements were made by Copeland Funeral Home.Mildred Tomko Mildred M. Tomko, formerly of Bellevue and wife of the late Michael Tomko, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. She is survived by her son, Gary Stirling and his wife Linda; her granddaughter, Kristin Coonfare and her husband Ryan; and two great-grandchildren, Tristan ad Gracie. There was no visitation and services and burial were private. Arrangements were made by Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side.Judith Parks Judith Ann Skekel Parks, 68, of Carnegie, died Sunday, August 21, 2011. She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Parks; three children, John Patrick Parks and his wife Dee of Tampa, FL, Janice Marie Campbell and her husband David of Robinson Township and Jacquelyn Louise Karwoski and her husband Ian of Emsworth; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends were received at McDermott Funeral Home, Kennedy Township, where a blessing service was held on Wednesday.John Woodside John H. Woodside of Huntley, IL, formerly of Avalon, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011. Mr. Woodside was retired as a train dispatcher for PA Railroad and Conrail Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theater during World War II as a combat engineer, and retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of major. He was a volunteer at the Carnegie Museum and Science Center. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor M. Lucas Woodside; two children, J. Russell Woodside and his wife Joanne of Huntley and Janelle R. Woodside Sartell and her husband Jonathan of Sugarland, TX; four grandchildren, Amy Woodside Wackerlin and her husband Brad, Joshua Woodside and his wife Corrie and Jordan Woodside and his wife Laura, all of Illinois, and John H. and his wife Carol of Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Jolie Woodside, Conner and Cooper Wackerlin of IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Katherine Yeskey, Margaret Ley, Robert K. Woodside and Richard E. Woodside. Private burial was in Allegheny Memorial Park.Zolton Lupes Zolton S. Lupes, husband of the late Gilda DeFazio Lupes, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011. He is survived by four children, David Lupes and his wife Jen of Wisconsin, Thomas Lupes and his wife Marsha of Oregon, Christine Hollinger and her husband Jeffrey and Mary-Jo Eustis and her husband Michael of California; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. There was no visitation. A funeral mass was held in St. Cyril of Alexandria Church on Friday. Memorial donations are suggested to Marian Hall, 934 Forest Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202.
