Steelers name coach of the year

Avonworth head football coach Duke Johncour, pictured above in red with this year's coaching staff, has been named the 2024 High School Coach of the Year by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Each of the 32 teams that make up the NFL nominate one high school football coach for the Don Shula Award, which is presented to one NFC and AFC winner and announced the week before the Pro Bowl Games. Each of the coaches nominated by a team will be a special guest of the NFL at the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Feb. 9. Particularly noting the Antelopes' emphasis on building character on and off the field, Steelers football development manager Joe Lofton said, "We've been keeping an eye on him for a long time and we think he's well deserving of the award. I think he will continue to lead the next generation of kids in that same direction of having good character on and off the football field."
