Several Northgate students have earned the opportunities to showcase their vocal talents at events scheduled throughout the Pittsburgh area over the next few weeks.

Senior Chase Dermond, who sang his way through middle school chorus and the high school concert choir, will perform as a member of District I Chorus at Quaker Valley High School, Feb. 6-8.

"It's a great honor to represent our school in Districts, and I hope to make my school proud," Chase said.

Members of the community who are interested in providing input into the search for a new superintendent for the Northgate School District are invited and encouraged to attend a focus group meeting.

Joseph Werlinich of the University of Pittsburgh is conducting the search and will meet at 7 p.m. with interested community members on Monday, Jan. 30, in the Avalon Elementary auditorium, and at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, in the Bellevue Elementary auditorium.

Also, a survey is available on the district’s web site, www.northgate.k12.pa.us, until Feb. 17.

While studying at the University of Pittsburgh -- where she received a master’s degree in library and information science -- she did sales work that included Bellevue as part of her territory.

Since then, she has traveled a bit, working as the branch manager of the Lawler Branch Library in New Bedford, MA, for three and a half years, and then as director of the Everett Free Library in Everett, PA for two years.

Russell Bookser Russell Noel Bookser, 63, of Denton, TX, formerly of Pittsburgh and the husband of the late Debra Keast Bookser, died Friday, May 22, 2015 in Presbyterian Hospital, Denton. Mr. Bookser was retired from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He was a member of Stanfield Masonic Lodge in Denton. Marjorie Curtin Marjorie J. "Margie" Curtin died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. Mrs. Curtin was a retired crossing guard for the City of Pittsburgh. She is survived by two children, Dena Hitchan and her husband Paul and Don Curtin and his wife Mary of Columbus, OH; her brother, Jim Montgomery and his wife Rayna; and six grandchildren, Haylee and Megan Hitchan, Joshua, Andrew, Zachary and Samantha Curtin. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Smith Montgomery.

Mrs. Kruly was a member of Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary and a former volunteer for VAMC for more than 20 years. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Lako and her husband Mike, Cecelia Kruly and Marian Campbell and her husband Scott; her sister, Sr. M. Norberta, O.S.F.; four grandchildren, Michael and his wife Nicole, George, Joanne and Joseph Lako; her great-granddaughter, Violette Lako; and nieces and nephews.

Carrie Haney, Anna Wagner, Rebecca Volk and Maura Scrabis qualified in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays for the girls, and Chad Kolarik, Brach Herzig, Colton Fritts, and Anthony McGaha qualified in that event for the boys.

Frances Clark Frances Mountsier Clark, 93, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Bellevue and wife of the late Clarence "Bill" Clark, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. Mrs. Clark had been an elementary school teacher in Bellevue and Mt. Lebanon. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Hykes and her husband James and Catherine Gerhold and her husband Wayne; five grandchildren, Steven Hykes, Brian Hykes and his wife Jennifer, Sarah Beckley and her husband Aaron, Benjamin Gerhold and his wife Kathleen and Christine Zahorchak and her husband Jeffrey; and sister-in-law of John Clark and Jean Gerken.

M.L. "Petey" Hager On Dec. 27, 2012 Petey passed away quietly at the age of 89 in Sykesville, MD. Her energy, enthusiasm and spirit for life will be incredibly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Ave., followed by a social gathering in the fellowship room to celebrate her life.

Nancy Brooks Nancy Jean Brooks, 76, of Kilbuck Township, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013. Mrs. Brooks was a summa cum laude graduate of Duquesne University. She was an administrator and educator at Eden Christian Academy for 15 years. She is survived by her husband, M. Richard Brooks; two sons, Richard L. Brooks and his wife Donna and Ronald Charles Brooks and his wife Lynda; five siblings, Virginia Held, Karen Miller, Kathryn Nordorff, Jim and John Kirch; and three grandchildren, Richard L. II, Dayna J. and David Brooks.
