Kathleen Dunn Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Walsh Dunn, 72, of Waxhaw, NC, formerly of Bellevue, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 in Hospice House of Union County, Monroe, NC. Mrs. Dunn enjoyed reading. She is survived by her husband, Joseph T. Dunn; four sons, Buddy Dunn and his wife Elizabeth and Patrick Dunn and his wife Callie, all of Seattle, WA, Christopher Dunn and his wife Sara of Downingtown, PA and Kevin Dunn and his wife Heather of Pataskala, OH; two siblings, Joe Walsh and Jane Walsh, both of Santa Cruz, CA; and eight grandchildren.


The family of Staff Sgt. Eric Holman -- brother Kevin, parents David and Carol, and sister Lisa -- share a photo montage after learning of Eric’s death in Afghanistan. The family formerly lived in Ohio Township, and Eric graduated from Avonworth High School.

Robert Schafers Robert H. Schafers, 84, of Kennedy Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 in Ohio Valley Hospital. Mr. Schafers was retired from Alcosan with 28 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.


Julia Janet McGurgan Julia Janet McGurgan of Catonsville, MD, died July 5, 2011. She was the wife of the late James H. McGurgan; She leaves four children, Joanne Edwards, Kathleen McGurgan, James McGurgan and Daniel McGurgan; a sister Dorothy Diehl; and grandchildren, Martin, Matthew, Angelee, Laura, Shaun, Justin, Megan and Lynn. A private service will be held in Pittsburgh at a later date. Arrangements will be made by the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville Inc.

Mary DeFrank Mary G. Carcara DeFrank, 89, formerly of the North Side and wife of the late Michael J. DeFrank, died Thursday, June 9, 2011. Mrs. DeFrank had been a teacher in the Catholic schools of the North Side for many years.


Raymond Seekford Raymond Seekford, 69, of Emsworth, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Mr. Seekford was retired and a member of Iron Workers Local #3 for 43 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea.


Eleanor Capps Eleanor Virginia Capps, 95, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Avalon and North Hills and wife of the late Harry Russell Capps, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Mrs. Capps was an Oliver High School graduate and an accomplished pianist who entertained many social groups and organizations in the Pittsburgh area.


William Chapman William H. Chapman, 83, of Franklin Park, formerly of Ross Township and Bellevue, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010. Mr. Chapman served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS LST 1059 as Seaman 1st Class in the Pacific Theatre and then in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a graduate of Robert Morris College with a degree in business. He completed his graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of McKinley-Stuckrath Masonic Lodge #318 for 56 years and a member of West View VFW. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid supporter of animal conservation and an outdoorsman.


Judith California Judith Ann Papania California, 44, of Ross Township,. died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010. Mrs. California was a graduate of North Hills High School and Carnegie Mellon University. She worked as a chemical engineer for several years.


Corey Meenan Corey W. Meenan, 29, of Bellevue and North Carolina, formerly of Beechview, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010. Mr. Meenan had attended Brashear High School and Northgate High School. He was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams.


It was all about filling vacancies when the Kilbuck Township Supervisors held a special meeting Tuesday.

With new supervisor Tom Tomaro participating by phone from Greensboro, NC, the board voted to fill a vacant supervisor's seat, as well as the position of tax collector for the township.

Chairman John Fader said that two "very qualified" people had applied for the supervisor's position left vacant when Susan Merckner resigned in December. Both had agreed to accept other positions in township government if not appointed supervisor, Fader said.


Bellevue’s two newest police officers are wrapping up the details that will put them on the streets of Bellevue within the next two weeks.

The pair were sworn in Monday by Mayor George Doscher.
