Trinity Lutheran Church will sponsor the eighth annual “Great Avalon Yard Sale” on Saturday, Aug. 22, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

To find the yard sales, stop at the church located at 638 California Ave. and receive a free map.

The Avalon High School All-Class Reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m.-dark at the Rose Barn in North Park.

Activities include door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, music, and food.

Donations of fruit, salads, side dishes, desserts and beverages are welcome. Financial donations are also appreciated.

Individuals who volunteer in the Northgate School District are invited to attend the annual volunteer recognition reception, Monday, May 11.

This year The Citizen will publish its 11th annual Pet Photo Contest, benefitting a local animal-related project. It is usually our biggest selling issue of the year, because if there is one thing most of us can agree on, it's that we love our pets.


The Quaker Valley Council of Governments (COG) and its member municipalities will sponsor a Recycling Day on Saturday, May 2, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Avalon Borough will host the event at the parking lot of the Avalon swimming pool on New Brighton Road across from the intersection of Frederick Street and New Brighton Road.

Holy Family Manor will hold its second annual spaghetti dinner on Friday, Feb. 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The dinner will be held at Community at Holy Family Manor Auditorium, 301 Nazareth Way, Pittsburgh 15229.

Dinner consists of spaghetti with meat sauce or marinara sauce, salad, a roll with butter and dessert. Take out is available.

Dinners costs are: adults, $8.; senior citizens 65 or older, $6.; children ages 6-12, $6.; and children aged 5 or younger are free. Payment must be made by cash or check only.

Teams of 2-4 people are invited to race around the North Boroughs, completing challenges and unlocking clues to figure out where their next stop is, as part of the North Boroughs Amazing Race.

The race will be Saturday, May 31, with team registration 9-9:45 a.m. at Bellevue Memorial Park. The day will conclude with a lunch party and crowning of the champions, 1-2 p.m. back at Memorial Park.

All proceeds benefit The Shepherd’s Door ministry.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on California Avenue

The Assumption Theater Guild will present the musical, “Children of Eden” at 7 p.m. on Saturdays, March 22 and 29, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on March 23 and 30. Mom to Mom, a ministry of Bellevue United Presbyterian Church, 457 Lincoln Ave., is hosting a women's health care discussion on Saturday, Feb. 15, 1-3 p.m.

Area women are invited to hear Dr. Daniel Holt talk on issues in women's health, answer questions, and give guidance on how to navigate the health care system. Refreshments and some time for conversation about common concerns will also be provided.

The Sacred Heart Parish Children’s Activities Committee invites community members to attend the Seventh annual St. Valentines Day father and daughter dance.

People who would like to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Andrew Bayne Memorial Library in Bellevue are invited to get involved.

A celebration is being planned for May, 100 years after the announcement in 1914 that two rooms of the former Amanda Bayne Balph and Jane Bayne Teece home would be opened to the public as a library.


The Shepherd’s Door will hold a fund-raiser on Friday, Nov. 15, including a spaghetti dinner starting at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bellevue.

Entertainment will include Johnny Angel (of Johnny Angel and the Halos) as host of a “clergy version” of Hollywood Squares, featuring pastors of local congregations.

Silent auction and treasure chest items will include Steeler and Penguin tickets.


The North Boros / Sewickley Area Meals-On Wheels is sponsoring a fall soup sale. Featured "Taste of Italy" homemade soups will include wedding, minestrone (vegetarian), and Tuscan. Each variety will be available for $6 per quart.

The first annual Team Alex Fund “Purse Bash” will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, 12:30-4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 450 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue.

One purse will be given away every 15 minutes. Purses include Vera Bradley, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Burberry, and more. All purses are authentic!

Admission is $40. and includes entry to all purse raffles and luncheon with wine, beer and soda.

A Chinese auction, 50/50 and Steelers ticket and merchandise raffle also will be available.


Ohio Township is offering flu shots for senior citizens.

Seniors should bring their Medicare cards to receive flu shots at no cost. Pre-registration is required by calling (412) 364-6321, so they have enough shots on hand

Shots will be given on the lower level of the Nature Center at the community park on Oct. 10, 1 to 3 p.m.


In his new book, “Civil War in Pittsburgh: Forge of the Union,” Ben Avon resident and Post-Gazette reporter Len Barcousky describes events in Southwest Pennsylvania during the Civil War. The public is invited to a free event to hear Barcousky tell these stories originally chronicled in Pittsburgh's major newspapers of the era.

Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.


The Avonworth Softball Boosters will hold a "Funny Fund-raiser" to benefit the girls' softball program.

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, in Smith Center at Sacred Heart Church, and will feature Tom Musial, David Michael and headliner David Kaye.

A $25 donation includes beer, soft drinks, mixers and snacks; BYOB. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for those age 21 and older, with the show at 8:30 p.m.
