Avalon Now will hold the fourth annual “Brighten the Season” event on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the borough building.

From noon to 4:30 p.m., there will be photo time with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Families, children and pets are welcome, and should bring a camera.

There also will be vendors and crafters. amd crafts.

Residents will decorate the community tree and are invited to bring an unbreakable ornament or make one to place on the tree.

The tree will be lit at 5 p.m., followed by caroling and refreshments courtesy of Trinity Lutheran Church.


Santa Claus was back in the Boroughs last Saturday, bringing along his wife to visit with children and pets. Santa and Mrs. Claus chatted with Mia, age 3, of Bellevue, pictured here, to find out what she hopes to receive when Santa makes his rounds on Christmas Eve. Santa also will be working with the Avalon and Ben Avon volunteer fire companies to visit children at their homes, and parents can register their children for a visit with the forms on Page 3 of this week's paper.


The Avalon Quality of Life Association will hold the second annual “Celebrate the Season in Avalon” event on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Avalon Borough Hall. Beginning at 3 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available to pose for pictures with children, families and pets.

The Avalon Public Library will have holiday ornament crafts for children to take home or to place on the community tree. The library also will have a basket raffle, and nonperishable food items will be collected for the North Hills Community Outreach Food Pantry at the Suburban Campus of Allegheny General Hospital.
