A good, old-fashioned egg toss was just one of the activities at a picnic hosted by the Northgate High School National Honor Society Tuesday for refugee children who live in the area. The NHS kids teamed up with the youth group from Bellevue Christian Church, one of a number of area churches that help people who have resettled in this little part of the United States. Most of the children who attended the picnic were refugees from Bhutan, a small country just below China.

Bellevue Christian Church will present a concert by Rhubarb on Friday, Aug. 13, at 6 p.m.

Area residents should bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the music on the back lawn of the church, located at the corner of Lincoln and North Starr avenues.

Those attending should bring a nonperishable food item for admission. Donations benefit the North Hills Community Outreach Food pantry.

Michele Ostapchenko Michele R. Ostapchenko, 58, of Bellevue, formerly of Groveton, PA, died Thursday, March 12, 2015. Ms. Ostapchenko worked at the Allegheny County Court House in the Family Division. She was a member of Bellevue Christian Church.

Helen Rosenberger Helen C. Rosenberger, 90, of Bellevue, formerly of Avalon, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012. She is survived by her sister, Rose Seethaler; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Constantine and Walburga Rauwolf Rosenberger; and her sister, Marie Savage. Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to her church at 45 N. Sprague Ave., Bellevue, PA 15202.

Anthony Morris Anthony G. Morris III, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Mr. Morris served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of foreign wars. He was a Stowe Township, McKees Rocks and Avalon police officer and a campus police lieutenant at Thiel College. He is survived by his parents, Ada and Anthony Morris; a brother, Joe and Melee Morris; his grandmother, Gladys Milender; neices and nephews, Ian, Jasmine, and Kiera Schon, Brianna Clark and Aaron and Xavier Morris; cousins and friends.

There are five four-year seats and one two-year seat that will be filled in the Northgate School Board elections this year. Primary votes for cross-filed candidates could wrap this up next week, or the vrace could wait until November for a final decision.

The candidates are:

Tim Makatura Dr. Makatura, from Bellevue, was appointed to the board last August to fill a vacancy. A psychologist who works as a clinician and a college instructor, he holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, a master's degree in guidance and counseling, and a Ph.D in psychology.

Chuck Gohn, pastor of Bellevue Christian Church, spoke to Bellevue Council at its regular meeting on Aug. 24 to promote "Improve the Vue" Day, and to request the help of council in distributing flyers and information.

The day of community service will be held on Oct.9. Gohn said that organizers hope to recruit 300 to 500 volunteers from civic organizations to work on various improvement projects in Bellevue.

Bellevue Christian Church will host “Chasing Away the Winter Blues,” a morning workshop by Ginny Corbett, associate director of Samaritan Counseling Center in Sewickley.

The workshop will introduce strategies for overcoming winter blues, and is open to anyone experiencing depression, discouragement or low motivation.

Participants can register at the door between 9:45 and 10 a.m. on March 27. The workshop will be held between 10 a.m. and noon in the Maranatha Room.
