Registration for American Red Cross swim lessons and recreational swims will be held at the Northgate Middle/High School pool lobby on Sept. 24 and 25, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6:30 -7:30 p.m., beginning the week of Oct. 1. Swimmers will select one night per week for eight weeks, and must be at least 5 years of age.

Adult water aerobics class will be held on Thursdays, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Parent/toddler class (under 5) will be Thursdays, 6:30 - 7 p.m.

Registration for the next session of the Northgate Community Swim Program will be held in the high school pool lobby on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 29-30, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Dorothy Malloy Dorothy R. Gastner Malloy, 91, of Emsworth, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011. She is survived by her husband, J. Regis Malloy; and three children, Bonnie Bass and her husband James, Diane Barr and her husband James and Ronald Malloy. Services and burial were private. Arrangements were made by the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home.

William Steffes William August Steffes of Kilbuck Township, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.

Walter Beals Walter Beals, 67, of Ross Township, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Mr. Beals was a graduate of Bellaire High School and Duquesne University. He taught in the Pittsburgh Public School District for more than 30 years. During retirement, he enjoyed painting, sculpting, gardening and golf, tennis and bowling. He is survived by two children, Suzi Shaw and Steven Patton; and his sister, Tamara Pinarich. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Voynick.

An Emsworth man was named "Volunteer of the Month" for September by the American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter.

Dan Lenz volunteers as a member of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT), which responds to house fires, flooding and other emergencies, helping victims find food, shelter and other necessities. A volunteer for the past four and a half years, Lenz also trains new DAT members and works as part of the the group's public affairs team.
