While winter may curtail pool time for many, it is the busy season for high school swim teams. The combined Northgate-Avonworth boys’ and girls’ teams hosted Knoch Tuesday evening at Northgate’s swimming pool. Knoch won the meet, but local swimmers picked up some first place finishes. Avonworth's Mayernik sisters (Lauren shooting, and Mackenzie) accounted for more than half of the team's 62 points in the game against Northgate last week, which saw the Flames held to 13 points.

Members of the Northgate Aquatics Club, which includes swimmers from both Northgate and Avonworth school districts, raised funds at their booth at the Avon Club Fall Festival, sponsored by the Avon Club.

Saturday was all about kids in Avalon, as the Avalon Public Library sponsored its annual “Touch a Truck” event. The afternoon is both entertaining and educational for children, who get up close to a variety of service and emergency vehicles. And for those kids tired of touching a truck, there were games where they could touch a...duck and win a prize.
