Wednesday was “Mayors Day” for the local Meals on Wheels program, but then again, most days are. Emsworth Mayor Dee Quinn (pictured above, center) normally volunteers to help prepare meals each morning for about 70 recipients, but this week she also joined fellow volunteers Ann Dobson (left) and Jean Shannon (right) to deliver those meals, along with a spring surprise of daffodils donated by the Avon Club.

The Avonworth Athletic Association (AAA) benefited from the generosity of Kilbuck Township officials, who allowed the county economic development department and contractor Lime Energy to use the township’s old fire hall during the recent energy audit and retrofitting program that helped municipalities save some $200,000 in energy costs, according to program director Dr. Fred Ralston. “You’ve done the county an exceptional service,” Ralston told the Kilbuck supervisors Tuesday night. In appreciation for that service, Lime Energy donated $1,500 to AAA.

The crafters of Metowers in Avalon have combined their skills to make fleece blankets for the Children's Hospital Child Life Department.

Last October, the 10 residents held an in-house auction that raised enough money to cover the costs of materials to make 11 blankets, which already have been delivered. Recently, profits from a hoagie sale made it possible for the group to buy materials for another 11 blankets, which will be delivered soon.
