The temperature in the area had pushed into the 90s last Thursday, but one spot in Ohio Township registered some extra degrees. As winner of radio station WDVE's contest to host a porch/patio party with TV star and comedian Billy Gardell, the Hartle family’s house on Bradshaw Drive was definitely the hottest place around. John Hartle explained how his family's home came to be party central for the day.
"Entrants had to do a 20-second video showing off their porch and patio and describe why comedian-actor Billy Gardell, who plays police officer Mike Biggs on 'Mike and Molly,' should have the party at their place. We were selected as the winner out of over 100 entries. WDVE broadcast live from the backyard from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Each of the DJs from WDVE selected their favorite summertime songs, and Billy Gardell also selected some summertime jams that are his favorites."
John said that the highlight of the party came with a song that Gardell selected as the last song of the night. "When he did his Comedy Central special here last year, he played this song over and over with his friends. It was a very special moment, as this is what the evening was all about -- friends and family gathering to remind Billy what a very special city Pittsburgh is. The song was 'Small Town' by John Cougar Mellencamp."
John's evaluation of the event? "The party was a huge success. Everyone had a great time, with some great food and music. It was truly an awesome summertime memory that we will never forget."
