Track teams split meet

Both the boys’ and the girls’ Avonworth-Northgate track teams had sort of a “toss-up” meet this past Tuesday, both beating Rochester, but both losing to Southside Beaver, making the teams section runners-up. Pictured from left are Dan Brown, Ray Mangone, Alex Goeden and Kyros Thorpe, following their first-place finish with a 46.3 time in the 4 x 1. In other events, Thorpe took first place in the 100 with an 11.3 time and first in the 200 with 23.2 time. Also, Brown ran 11.9 in the 100 and 17.9 in the 110 high hurdles, both personal records for him..
Head coach Brian Veshio said that the team is looking to compete well at the stacked and highly competitive Butler Invitational this Friday, where 65 school districts will compete. “In particular, Hunter Robinson is looking to improve upon her stellar performance there last year, where she took home gold in the 100, 200 and 400, setting all-time meet records in the 200 and 400.
