Scholars recognized


Avonworth students, from left, Bethany Kujawinski, Chloe Mellon, Lauren Robinet, Ben Pietrusinski and Denise Stone have received top honors from the Carson Scholars Fund.The three ninth graders include Ben, son of Colleen and Carl Pietrusinski of Ben Avon; Chloe, daughter of Brenda and Steve Mellon of Emsworth; and Lauren, daughter of Jane Ellen Robinet of Ben Avon and Yves Robinet of Ohio Township. Bethany, grade 7, is the daughter of Kelly and Nick Kujawinski. Denise, a sophomore, is the daughter of Phil Stone and Peggy Ward of Emsworth. This year 425 high school students from across the country were named Carson Scholars. These students were nominated by their schools based on their high academic achievement and commitment to their communities. Also this year, 715 previous scholarship winners achieved recognition status. First-time Carson Scholars receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied toward the student's college education, along with a medal, a certificate, a trophy nameplate for his or her school, and an invitation to an awards banquet.
