Rotary reaches out to students

Northgate choral students are continuing their North Boroughs' Rotary Club association, with seniors Jessica Obriot and Sabrina Patak serving as Junior Rotarians, and several other students being involved in Rotary activities. Choral director Kelly Winovich said that the connection with Rotary all began when her concert choir first sang for the YMCA's "Tree of Lights" celebration.

"Rotary members were impressed with my students. They asked if we would be interested in taking part in their programs, so I began to coordinate events over the past few years. Among the Rotary adults we have been working with are Maureen Newcamp, Stuart Benson, Fred Donatelli and Don Huber." Activities include a leadership conference, weekly meetings where students are welcome to speak, and invitations to banquets at Shannopin Country Club. Students have met with other philanthropical groups, and all were invited to attend an Ethics Symposium at Duquesne University, with expenses paid by the North Borough's Rotary.
