Avonworth - Northgate wrestling coach Timothy Giel has yet to check the record books, but it’s probably a safe bet to say that Tuesday night’s 58-0 victory over Riverview is the first total roster sweep in the history of the team. Pictured above is sophomore Wes Bartholomew, who won with a pin in the 138 lb. category. Bartholomew, currently ranked fifth in the WPIAL with an 18-5 record, is expected to do well in the post-season, along with Darion Trimmer at 132 lbs. and Ka'Dale Coles at heavyweight.
The team also scored a 43-28 upset over 10th-ranked Keystone Oaks in the past week. The win featured falls from 145 lbs. sophomore Cam Kosak, 160 lbs. freshman Sam Nelson and sophomore heavyweight Ka'Dale Coles. Bartholomew, having moved up a weight class, defeated his opponent 7-2. Avonworth - Northgate lightweights also won three of the final four bouts. In addition, sophomore Anthony Trimmer recorded a major decision over his opponent with a 13-0 score in the dual match-up.
Bartholomew recently placed fourth in the 138 lbs. weight class at the 34th annual Steve DeAugustino Holiday Classic at West Mifflin High School.
