Memorial Day

North Boroughs residents gathered Monday to honor the many area residents who have died while serving their country as members of the U.S. military.

The Avonworth American Legion held its annual parade through Emsworth and Ben Avon, led by a military color guard and featuring old military vehicles in addition to the Avonworth High School marching band, local officials and organizations.

In Bellevue, special attention was paid to those who died during World War I, this being the 100th anniversary of that “war to end all wars.” An historian from Soldiers and Sailors Museum brought WWI memorabilia (pictured here) and spoke about the local service members who had died in that war.
