Emsworth officials took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in the opening of the first of two small bridges that, despite their size, provide critical access to parts of the borough. The Herron Avenue Bridge is now open to traffic, and construction on the Gibson Street Bridge is expected to take place next year. Federal and state grants are paying for the lion’s share of the $2 million cost. Matt Smith; Emsworth Council president Paul Getz; Tom Goldinger, Plum Construction supervisor; and Julie Jarbeck, chief of staff for state Rep. Dan Deasy.
