The 68th annual Avonworth community Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday, May 26, beginning at 10 a.m. in Emsworth.

Parade division Nos. I and II will march along Center Avenue in Emsworth and continue along Church Avenue in Ben Avon and end at the Lance Cpl. Patrick Kenny Field on Ohio River Boulevard. Services will begin at 11 a.m. to honor Avonworth veterans. The guest speaker will be Herbert J. Hartle.

Division III will line up at the former Shop and Save lot due to the Port Authority Center Avenue bridge weight restriction.

Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” (abridged), a staged reading by the Community Theatre Players of Ben Avon, will be presented on Friday, May 16, at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Ave.

Starting time is 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations appreciated.

The Avalon Apple Blossom Festival will take place on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., presented by Trinity Lutheran Church and the Borough of Avalon.

A variety of entertainment and festivities -- including a car cruise, huge basket auction, plant sale and entertainment -- will take place on California Avenue in front of the church and borough hall. The Pirate Parrot will visit noon-1 p.m., and there will be a pie eating contest at 12:45 p.m.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on California Avenue

A craft and vendor fair will be held at Risen Lord Parish Education Center, 3250 California Ave., Brighton Heights, March 21, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and March 22, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.,

There will be more than 40 tables of crafts and vendors, and a food and gift basket auction.

Since 1927, Christian women around the world have gathered the first Friday of March to pray for peace. This year, on March 7 at 1 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Ave., the World Day of Prayer service will be held for the extended North Boroughs community.

Women from Egypt have written the 2014 service,entitled “Streams in the Desert.” An offering will be received for programs assisting American needy women and children.

A reception will follow the service.

Parking is available beside the church on Rostraver Drive.

Northgate School District will hold kindergarten registration on Thursday, March 6, at the Northgate middle/ high school, 589 Union Ave., 8:30 -10:30 a.m.and 5 -7 p.m.

Jordan Tax Service will be collecting 2014 garbage payments at the Bellevue borough hall on Thursday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m. - noon.

The fee is $179.00 per dwelling unit for the year, but may be paid at a $10 discount if paid in full on or before March 5.

Residents also may pay the bill in two installments, with the first half due on or before March 5, and the second half due by July 2 at the rate of $89.50 per installment.

Payments also can be made by mail and sent directly to Jordan Tax Service, 102 Rahway Rd., McMurray, PA 15317.

Mom to Mom, a ministry of Bellevue United Presbyterian Church, 457 Lincoln Ave., is hosting a women's health care discussion on Saturday, Feb. 15, 1-3 p.m.

Area women are invited to hear Dr. Daniel Holt talk on issues in women's health, answer questions, and give guidance on how to navigate the health care system. Refreshments and some time for conversation about common concerns will also be provided.
