Kids ages 4-16 have the chance to win the title of Honorary Mayor of Bellevue and perform “official” duties during Bellevue’s sesquicentennial (150th) celebration.

Tickets for this fund-raising raffle can be purchased at the Bellevue Borough Hall, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, at $5 each.

The winner will ride on a float in the Fireman’s Parade, Thursday, June 8 and perform duties on Saturday, June 10, during the Sesquicentennial Block Party celebration.

The drawing for Honorary Mayor will be held Wednesday, May 31, 4 p.m.

Avalon Police Department may soon be equipped with teddy bears and other stuffed animals to help comfort children officers encounter in stressful situations.

One of the borough’s younger residents, Sydney Jackson, an Avalon Elementary School student, proposed the program during Tuesday’s Avalon Council meeting after witnessing a situation in her neighborhood that was very upsetting to a friend.

Donations of stuffed animals, money, or sealable plastic bags can be dropped off at the Avalon Police station.

“Better Choices, Better Health,” a six- week free workshop for seniors age 60 and older, will be held at the Prime Time Senior Center, 440 Lincoln Ave. in Bellevue.

The chronic disease self-management program is facilitated by two trained leaders.

Each participant will receive a free copy of the book “Living a Healthy Life with a Chronic Condition,”

The course will be held Thursdays, Feb. 16- March 23, noon-2:30 p.m. Free refreshments and snacks will be provided.

The North Boros-Sewickley Area Meals on Wheels is sponsoring a soup sale fund-raiser.

Homemade wedding and loaded baked potato soups will be available at $8 per quart.

To place orders for containers of soup, pre-order by calling (412)766-7763. Order deadline is 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13.

Soup pick up is at the meal site in St. James Lutheran, Emsworth, on Feb. 16, 8 a.m-7 p.m.

Assumption Church in Bellevue will host super bingo, Sunday, Jan. 29, at McGovern Hall.

Doors open at 1 p.m. with play beginning at 2 p.m.

Cost of admission is $25 and includes a six-card package, a slice of pizza, a bottle of water and a cookie. Extra packages of bingo cards are available for purchase.

Prizes are $75 for regular games, $150 for specials and a jackpot of $1,000.

Only 200 tickets will be sold.

The Bellevue-Avalon Girls’s Athletic Associa-tion (BAGA) will hold a community flea market on Sunday, May 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Gillott Field in Bellevue.

Proceeds will be used to improve the softball field and to buy equipment.
