The North Boroughs Community Day will be held Saturday, June 30, noon-dusk at the Avalon Community Park and Pool on New Brighton Road.

The event features free swimming from noon-6 p.m., the Pennsylvania National Guard 20-foot high Rock Climbing Wall, 6-8 p.m., Live music by “Told Ya So,!” 7 p.m.-dusk, 50/50 and raffle drawings, 6-10 p.m., and fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Additionally, food and drinks will be available for purchase 6-10 p.m. from BRGR Food truck, Graeter’s ice cream truck, Mojo Mocha coffee truck, Pepe Taco Loco truck and Pizza Hut.

Local residents can learn how to turn their property into a beautiful landscape on a budget.

The Penn State Extension Master Gardener Program teaches the basics that professionals use to create pleasing outdoor spaces, from how to devise a master plan to hardscaping and much more.

The program will be held on June 26 at the Center of Bellevue (Hawley Avenue). Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.

Allegheny County residents age 60 or older in 2018 who meet the 2018 household income eligibility requirements, are eligible to receive four $5 checks that can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania from a participating PA farm or a farmers market.

Husbands and wives may each receive vouchers.

Identification with proof of age and residency is required to receive vouchers.

Income must be at or below $22,459 for one person and $30,451 for two people. Income is self-declared; you do not need to show proof.

Assumption Parish will celebrate 105 years of Catholic education at Assumption School during a noon mass, Sunday, June 10.

Following the Mass, the parish will have a closing celebration with a community picnic, held in the parking lot. Additionally, there will be a final walk-though the school hallways for alumni, families, parishioners and all others are welcome.

The 72nd annual Avonworth Community Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by Avonworth Post #866, will take place Monday, May 28, beginning at at 10 a.m.

The parade route begins at the intersection of Center and Pennsylvania avenues in Emsworth, continues to Church Avenue in Ben Avon and ends at the Lance Cpl. Patrick Kenny Field on Ohio River Boulevard.

Memorial services, to honor Avonworth veterans, begin at 11 a.m.

In case of rain, services will be held at 11 a.m. in the Smith Center at Sacred Heart Church

Residents should check signs on their streets for parking restrictions. People who fail to move their vehicles can receive a ticket/fine.

Cost is $20 per space.

Live, Learn, Grow is hosting a “Downsizing” class, Monday, Jan. 29, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Center of Bellevue.

The class, taught by certified realtor Eileen Gallagher, will provide the essentials to decluttering and downsizing one’s home. Participants will gain knowledge about what to keep and what to discard, as well as tidbits on how to organize garage sales and estate sales. Cost of admission is $5.
