Robert Kiefer Robert C. Kiefer, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 in Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Mr. Kiefer was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Hornet. He is survived by four siblings, Patricia Bachmann and her husband Jim, A.J. Kiefer Jr. and his wife Kathy, Raymond Kiefer and his wife Lucetta and Beverly Kiefer; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustine J. and Margaret Hallstein Kiefer.

Mary Rieger Mary F. "Mae" Kuhn Rieger, 85, of Ross Township, formerly of Brighton Heights and wife of the late Elmer Rieger, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015. She is survived by two siblings, John Kuhn and his wife Rosemary and Dorothy Hasenbein; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Mary Kodovsky Kuhn; and her brother-in-law, Herbert Hasenbein.

James McCarthy James M. "Jimmy" McCarthy, 83, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015. Mr. McCarthy was born in Limerick, Ireland and moved to New York to work on a farm. He was a horse jockey in Ireland and England and rode a number of winners, notably in the Curragh with Martin Quirke and Tom Costelloe in Clare, and he rode the most famous Montcapitane, sire to the legendary Gold Cup winner Captain Christie in 1977. When he moved to Pittsburgh, he worked on Barberry Farms in Sewickley.

Marie Wehner Marie Marion A. Wehner, 96, of McCandless, formerly of Spring Hill and Avalon, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015. Ms. Wehner was retired from US Steel after 44 years of service. She is survived by her sister, Clara Freel; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wehner and Robert Wehner. A funeral mass was held in St. Ambrose Church, Holy Wisdom Parish, North Side, on Monday. Arrangements were made by Sperling Funeral Home.

John Lutchko John R. Lutchko, 80, of Ross Township, husband of the late Patricia Paulson Lutchko, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Martin and her husband Kevin and Carrie Anderson; his sister, Jean Brown; and a grandson, Tyler Martin. Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Church of the Assumption today, Friday, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.

Elizabeth Way Elizabeth Black Way, 94, wife of the late Robert E. Way, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 in Brevillier Village, Erie, PA. Mrs. Way was an Avalon High School and Burrough's Business School graduate. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church of Highland. She is survived by two children, Richard A. Way of Pittsburgh and Nancy B. Way of Harborcreek, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Martha Black; and four siblings, Meldrew Boyle, Agnes Britt, John Black and Robert Black.

Edward Skinger Edward F. (Skindzer) Skinger, 88, of Brighton Heights, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015. Mr. Skinger was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Maryann Nalitz Skinger; six children, John, Steve, Larry and his wife Judy, Mark and his wife Helen, Therese and Edziu and his wife Dianna; his sister, Frances Glova; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven siblings. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Saturday.

Ronald James Ronald T. James, 78, of Avalon, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 in San Antonio, TX. Mr. James was a 1955 graduate of Schenley High School and served in the U.S. Army 1956-58. He was a retired taxi cab driver and volunteered at the EECM soup kitchen and at Carnegie Science Center, working in the STEM office and for special events at the center. He was active in the Church of the Ascension in Oakland, especially in Pastoral Care.

Annette Anderson Annette Romano Anderson, 78, of Avalon, wife of the late Earl T. Anderson, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015. She is survived by her son, Earl V. Anderson and his wife April; two siblings, Betty Tieger and Vince Romano and his wife Darla; her step-granddaughter, Lacey Johns; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Kutcher and LaVerne Thomson and her husband Dave; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Larry Tieger and Bob Kutcher.

Thelma Fitzgerald Thelma R. Fitzgerald, 91, formerly of Sewickley and Bellevue and wife of the late John D. Fitzgerald Sr., died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015. She is survived by three children, Carol Fitzgerald, Pat Koche and her husband Ross and Michael Fitzgerald and his wife Jean; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, John D. Fitzgerald Jr. and his wife Barbara Soltis, Robert Fitzgerald and James Fitzgerald and his wife Debra.

Evelyn Guzzo Evelyn Arndt Guzzo, 66, of Coraopolis, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Good Samaritan Hospice of Beaver. Mrs. Guzzo was a 1966 graduate of Moon High School. She served on the Coraopolis Public Library board for nine years. She was an avid reader and a sketch artist.

The rare type of leukemia that claimed Avonworth teacher Jeff Boggess's life on July 5 came on so suddenly and then progressed so insidiously once diagnosed last October that those who knew him found it difficult to believe.

Mr. Boggess, who lived in Ohio Township, had taught social studies at the high school since 2001, using traditional as well as contemporary methods to provide relevance to the lessons of history, working to ensure that those lessons would long be remembered.

Dr. James V. Jordan Dr. James V. Jordan, 72, of Bellevue, died July 6, 2015. Mr. Jordan practiced law for many years from his office in Bellevue. He was the beloved husband of the late Sara "Sally" Jordan; son of the late Harry and Mary Jordan; brother of Harry and the late William Jordan; uncle of Jessica and Meggan. Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2-8 p.m. at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Brighton Heights. A Blessing Service will be held Saturday, july 11, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood memorial Park, Lower Burrell.

Robert Besser Robert John Besser, 79, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Bellevue and husband of the late Betty Schiellien Besser, died Sunday, June 7,2015. Mr. Besser was a Bellevue High School and Duquesne University graduate. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Haughin of Zelienople and Mary Alice Naylor of Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerick and Elizabeth Pohlot Besser; and his brother, Emerick Besser. Services and burial were held in Arizona.

Dale Pritchard Dale E. Pritchard, 50, of Avalon, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Mr. Pritchard was a lifetime member of Kilbuck Township Volunteer Fire Co. He is survived by his wife, Cathy A. Trischler Pritchard; two children, Joseph E. Pritchard and his wife Kristen and Katelyn M. Pritchard; two siblings, Glen Pritchard and Wendy Crawford; his grandson, Landon J. Pritchard; and nieces and nephews.

Craig Dickson Craig Bruce Dickson, 63, of Emsworth, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Mr. Dickson was a 1970 graduate of Avonworth High School. He enjoyed music, cars, motorcycles and a good cheeseburger. He is survived by his partner, Jeanne McMahan and her daughter, Lesley Allison and her husband Harry; and his brother, Joel Dickson and his wife Carolyn.
