Dennis Michaels Dennis J. Michaels, 65, of Ross Township, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012. Mr. Michaels was a retired audit supervisor for the Liquor Control Board. He is survived by his wife, Janet Olszewski Michaels; three children, Stephanie Ondo and her husband Ron, Dennis Michaels and his wife Jessica and Elizabeth Michaels and her husband Jason Manse; and five grandchildren, Anthony and Natalie Ondo, Dennis Michaels III, Bradley Michaels and Lola Manse. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sophie Michaels.


Frank E. Hirsch Frank E. Hirsch of Marshall Township, formerly of Bellevue, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. He leaves his wife, Lori (Rodgers) Hirsch; children, Amanda L., James J. and Frank R. Hirsch; his parents, James "Chub" and Mary Ann "Boots" Hirsch. he was the brother of Kim E. Motycka (Steve), Amy K. O'Niell (Leo), and the late Patrick J. Hirsch and his surviving spouse, Jane; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Ferdinand Church.

Albert Ejzak Albert Lawrence Ejzak, age 72, of Emsworth, passed away Nov. 19, 2012. Beloved husband of JoAnne L. (Wojtczak); father of Josie Ramsey and Steven Ejzak; grandfather of Douglas and Thomas Ramsey; also survived by his brothers, Charles and William Ejzak. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Veronica Ejzak, and his brother, Raymond Ejzak.


Anthony Rekasie Anthony L. Rekasie, 92, husband of the late Doris B. Rekasie, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012. Mr. Rekasie was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by three children, Cheryl Brown and her husband Lloyd, Joyce Wright and her husband Phillip and Larry Rekasie and his wife Amy; his sister, Anna Spece; and three grandsons, Chad and Cory Rekasie and Travis Wright. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Saturday.

Claudia Veder Claudia Veder, 93, of Emsworth, wife of the late Charles Veder, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012. Mrs. Veder was a 1937 graduate of Oliver High School, where she had been valedictorian. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Church in Emsworth and at Suburban General Hospital. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.


Amy McElroy Amy Sheaffer McElroy, 50, of Ohio Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 in Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford. She is survived by three siblings, Dru Dubuque and her husband Jed, Francie Cech and her husband Alan and Jennifer Bates McElroy; two nieces, Natasha Dickson and her husband Andrew and Alexandra Cech; and a grandniece, Aila Elizabeth Dickson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Sheaffer and Dorothy Thornily McElroy.

Tristan Grande Tristan L. "Pete" Grande, 85, of Ben Avon, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. Mr. Grande was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired U.S. Postal Service employee.


Robert Swazuk Robert S. Swazuk, 66, of Worthington, OH, formerly of Ben Avon, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. Mr. Swazuk attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Avonworth High School. He joined the U.S. Army at age 16. General Matthew Ridgeway interceded so he could join the 173rd Airborne Brigade, A Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Platoon in Okinawa, Japan in 1964. In April 1965, the unit was sent to Vietnam, where he served as a unit radio operator. After the war, he continued his education. He was a manufacturing representative in plumbing and HVAC.


Genevieve Opperman Genevieve R. "Jean" Kowalski Opperman, wife of the late James Q. Opperman, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. She is survived by four daughters, Valerie A. Bottles, Marita L. Baginski and her husband Tom, Barbara J. DeTemple and her husband Donald and Terry A. Walsh and her husband Mike; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy E. Opperman; and two brothers. There was no visitation. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Saturday. Arrangements were made by O'Brien Funeral Home, North Side.

Julia Bamberger Julia Bamberger, 97, of Bellevue, wife of the late William Bamberger, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. She is survived by four children, Richard Bamberger, William Bamberger, Connie Redman and Barbara Boyd and her husband Howard; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kay Bamberger. Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Monday. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery.


Everett Niemela Everett Arthur Niemela, 90, educator, woodworker, and WWII veteran, died Sept. 13, 2012 of natural causes at White Horse Village continuing care community in Newtown Square, PA. Mr. Niemela was a long-time resident of Ben Avon. Born in rural Long Branch, PA to Finnish immigrants, Mr. Niemela was the youngest of 11 children growing up on a working farm. He graduated from Charleroi High School in 1939. He volunteered for the Army Air Force at the start of World War II and served as a flight engineer on a B-24 crew stationed in England, earning three Bronze Stars.

Daughter of the late Louis and Erminia Scandrole. Loving mother of Deanna Kuder and Marilyn (the late Brent) Adams. Proud grandmother of Daniel and Jason. Sister of Virginia (the late Ken) Bagnato of Bemville, formerly of Willock, and the late Ruth (Max) Brown. Also survived by nieces, Marisa and Lisa, and nephew, Richard.


Vera Wolfe Vera Margaret Wolfe, 88, of Glenfield, wife of the late George William Wolfe, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 in Masonic Village in Sewickley. Mrs. Wolfe was a member of St. Mary Church in Glenfield.


Dorothy Drucis W. Dorothy Drucis of Avalon, wife of the late Thomas Drucis, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012. Mrs. Drucis grew up on the North Side and attended Oliver High School before graduating from Duff's Business School. She worked in the engineering department at Crucible Steel and for Derby & Co. She then became a real estate agent, working for Young Agency, Bernhard Realty, Northwood Realty and Stonebridge Real Estate.


Marjorie Grubbs Marjorie L. Grubbs, formerly of Avalon, died Thursday, July 26, 2012. She is survived by five children, Colleen Andrews and her husband Donald, Amy Durnil and her husband Robert, Melissa Szuch and her husband Alex, Heather Young and her husband David and Earl Grubbs and his wife Lori; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Angelena Hunter Angelena A. Franze Hunter, of West View, formerly of Troy Hill and wife of the late Edgar R. Hunter, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Mrs. Hunter was a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America and a member of St. Athanasius and Holy Name Christian Mothers. She had worked for Keystone Box Co. and H.J. Heinz Co. and was a volunteer at Allegheny General Hospital and Observatory Senior Center for many years.
