He was the son of the late Harry and Anna Mahaven; husband of Carla (Hartz) Mahaven; father of Tim (Stephanie Kulak) Mahaven, Angela (Jim) Bates and Jaclyn (Jeremy) Sweeney; grandfather of Kaitlyn Bates, Kaden Loveridge, Maddy Sweeney and Cathan Sweeney. Doug was a member of the Syria Shrine, the Mason's Avalon Lodge #657, a member of Royal Order of Scotland and the Grotto MOVPER, and was a veteran of the US Air Force.

Robert Michael Colecchia Robert M. Colecchia, 77, of Avalon, died Thursday, September 14, 2017, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. He was the son of the late Anthony and Columbia (Viscusi) Colecchia; brother to Tony (Chris) Colecchia and Ann Marie (Ed) Huber; devoted uncle to Dana Getz, Andrea Korade, Sarah Cardosi and Joshua Huber; great-uncle to Maia and Anna Getz, Luca and Jonah Korade, Anthony and Maria Cardosi, and Eli and Scarlett Huber.


Edward C. Martin, Sr. Edward C. Martin, Sr., 87, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017. He was the husband of the late Betty (Cassandro) Martin; father of Anna Marie (Richard Amorose) Martin, Edward C. (Linda) Martin, Jr. and Duane (Janet) Martin; also survived by seven grandchildren; preceded in death by brothers and sisters. Ed was a member of the Teamsters #249. He was the husband of the late Anna Mae (Eidenschenk) Ettore; father of Kimberly (Edward) Hock of Bellevue and Christina ( Michael) Robinson of Frederick, MD; grandfather of Eric Hock; brother of Linda Cronin of Valencia and the late Donald Ettore (surviving wife Maryanne). Steven Galetich Steve Galetich, 91, of Avalon, formerly of the North Side, died Friday, July 7, 2017. He was the husband of the late Mildred Galetich; father of Sandra Galetich, Patricia “Tish” Barley (Richard) and the late Debora Demos; preceded in death by seven siblings: Pete, George, Frank, John, Kate, Mary and Isabelle; also survived by two grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his cat Rambo and many family members and friends. Mr. Galatich was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Services and interment will be private.

He was an avid baseball player and coach.

James Joseph Kania James Joseph Kania, 59, of Bellevue, died Thursday, June 1, 2017. He was the son of Elizabeth “Betty” (Hay) Kania and the late Joseph J. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Jamison and Alice (Stutsman) Pollock, his sister, Nancy Pollock Beuerman and his brother, Russell W. Pollock. Jon is survived by his wife, Donna, of 60 years, his son, Jon Jamison Pollock, Jr., his daughter, Allison (Pollock) Ott, his son-in-law, Hilary Ott, grandson, Ethan Ott, all of Mechanicsburg, PA and a granddaughter, Katie Ott, of Pittsburgh.

Ruth L. Saunders Ruth Loretta Saunders, 80, of Kilbuck Township, died Saturday, March 11 at Holy Family Manor in Ross Township. Ruth was the youngest of four children, to the late Joseph W. and Bertha L. (DiNucci) Saunders and was raised in a loving family on the north side of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Norbert and Joseph, and her sister Mary. Ruth is survived by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sr. Genevieve Mary Jurick O.S.F. Sister Genevieve Mary Jurick, formerly Sister Assumpta, 95, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis United States Province, in her 76th year of Religious Profession, died Feb. 26, 2017, at Marian Hall Home in Pittsburgh.
