The Avonworth-Northgate wrestlers came out on top in their final home match of the season, scoring a 47-18 victory over the Riverview High School Raiders. One of the highlights of the night was a third-period pin by Northgate junior Jeremiah Georges, pictured here. Jeremiah, 7-13 in his first season in the sport and improving, wrestles in the 170-lb. weight class. Another key pin was picked up by sophomore Eli Kauer, now 10-6 in the 132-lb. weight class. Coach Tim Giel described the season as having more ups than downs, with promise for success in future seasons found in younger athletes who have shown interest in the sport. “Ranking in the top half of teams in a Jan. 19 county competition shows that we’re making progress,” Giel said. “And with younger kids coming into the program, we’re going to be a force next year.”
Following a tri-meet at Moon Area High School, the team moved on to WPIAL sectional competition and individual championships.
