Volunteer tax credits

Emergency service volunteers who reside in Emsworth will be able to take advantage of tax credits.

At the March 8 meeting, Emsworth Council unanimously passed Ordinance 997 authorizing local tax credits for residents who are active volunteers with volunteer fire companies or non-profit emergency medical services agencies.

According to borough solicitor Robert McTiernan, the Emsworth ordinance may very well be the first such ordinance passed in Pennsylvania since the state legislature authorized such tax credits last year.
