In the final home meet for Avonworth/Northgate track and field, the boys beat South Side and Neighborhood Academy, giving them the Section 2 championship, with the girls beating Neighborhood but losing to South Side, and placing second in the section.

Team records stand at 7-0 for the boys, and at 6-1 for the girls.

Coach Brian Veshio had strong praise for many of the victories in Tuesday’s meet.

“Including the milers, Noah Clickett ran a strong 200,” Veshio said “as did Hayden Robinson in the 100, and the girls in the two-mile relay -- Lindsey Hartle, Anna Igims, Kayley Wisniewski, and Megan Wisniewski.”

Veshio said that it is too early to look ahead to state match-ups, “…but you could say that many of the team's athletes are listed on the performance lists for WPIAL individual championships, lists that can be found at wpial.org.”

Being the final home meet, senior recognition also was included in the schedule of events.

Female seniors who were recognized as being strong members of the team for the past four years included Hayden Robinson, Megan Wisniewski, and Kayley Wisniewski. “They have multiple individual WPIAL medals and championships, individual PIAA state medals, and were part of the core that won the PIAA team state runner-up trophy in 2016 and won the PIAA team state championship trophy in 2018,” Veshio said.
