Tax collection

Solicitor William Andrews told Avonworth School Board members at their April 13 meeting that delinquent tax collection has increased from last year.

Andrews said that $18,000 more was collected this year.

Andrews also said that the district's tax assessment program is moving forward and has resulted in 68 new residential assessment appeals for the 2009 year. Appeals are filed when the sale of a home is more than $15,000 higher than the assessed value, he said.

Andrews noted that the district is finishing the 2008 commercial and residential appeals and has received decisions on all but two appeals. The 2008 residential appeals have brought in $41,700 in additional tax money, while the commercial appeals have brought in an additional $14,000, he said.
