With the Emsworth Bridge now closed and some of the construction trucks traveling over Ben Avon streets, Ben Avon Council member Ken Opipery reported Tuesday that he was able to procure an overweight truck permit for the contractor.
"If anything happens to any of the streets, they will have to repair them," he said, emphasizing that the contractor will be responsible – it won't be a matter of the borough making the repairs then seeking reimbursement.
Opipery said a video had been taken showing the state of the roads before the work began, and one will be taken again after completion for comparison. He added that the contractor told him he expected the trucks to be making approximately 50 trips back and forth – fewer than originally anticipated. The bridge work should take about a year.
