Shenango demolition

Ohio Township Police Detective Joe Hanny reminded Ben Avon Council on Tuesday that the Shenango Plant on Neville Island is tentatively set for demolition work to take place April 24. Two of the smokestacks are scheduled to be imploded, although Hanny said the work has twice been scheduled before, but been delayed. "It is going to happen (sometime)," he said, and he wants people to be aware that, depending on the wind, there is potential for blowing dust from the implosion.

"We have systems in place and we will be monitoring it," he said, "in case we would have to shut down (Route) 65." He doesn't believe that will happen, but said the police are notifying all of the boroughs, just in case.
