Outdoor fitness

Bellevue has been awarded a $30,000 grant to help create an “outdoor gym” adjacent to the baseball field in Memorial Park.

Director of administrative services Ron Borczyk said that the grant from the National Fitness Campaign will be dedicated to the construction of an outdoor fitness area that features a number of stations addressing different fitness challenges. The total cost of the project is about $120,000, he said, but NFC partners with private entities to fund most of the cost. Bellevue will contribute $9,000 in grant funds already obtained by the borough to fund updates to the baseball field fencing.

NFC began in California in 1979, and since then has gone nationwide with the construction of outdoor gyms that measure about 32 feet by 35 feet. While instructions for use of the equipment is posted at each station, the program also works in connection with an on-line app.
