Sr. Virginia Cummings
Sr. Virginia "Ginny" Cummings, OSF, 89, of the School Sisters of St. Francis of the United States Province, died Friday, July 10, 2015 in Mt. Assisi Convent Motherhouse, Ross Township.
Sr. Virginia was an alumna of Mt. Assisi Academy. She entered the community from Our Lady of Hope in Dundalk, MD, where she was living at the time with her family. She was the first member who had been married. While in the community, she attended Robert Morris University and taught business courses at St. Francis Academy in San Antonio, TX for six years. She also had taught in Clymer, PA and Erie, PA. She received her certificate at Duquesne University as director of education and ministered to the Divine Redeemer in Ambridge, Most Holy Name in Pittsburgh and Immaculate Conception in Clarion, PA. Later, she ministered for the Catholic Cemetery Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh for five years. She then was a resident of Mt. Assisi Convent and was the driver for the sisters at any time of day or night.
She is survived by her son, David; her brother, Roland; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Michael; her parents, Roland C. and Frances Hanenberg Skeen; and two brothers, Arthur and Francis.
Friends were received at Mt. Assisi Convent. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Queen of Angels Chapel on Tuesday. Arrangements were made by the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Walter Blair Brown of Avalon died Monday, July 6, 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Brown; three daughters, Carrie Lynch and her husband Frank, Tina and Melissa Brown; and four grandchildren, Caitlyn Sias, Clara, Aidyn and Declan Lynch. He was preceded in death by his parents,William and Dorothy Ann Brown.
There was no visitation. Services were held at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville on Monday. Arrangements were made by Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side.
Dorothy A. Lucas Duessel of Avalon died Monday, July 13, 2015.
She is survived by her husband, George E. Duessel; two daughters, Sheila A. Schwartz and her husband David and Chris E. Stanton and her husband Byron; her mother, Elizabeth Lucas; her brother, Robert Lucas and his wife Darlene; and five grandchildren, Daniel, Mollie, Abigail, Nicholas and Logan. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Lucas.
Friends were received at Devlin Funeral Home, North Hills, until the time of a blessing service on Friday.
John White II
John K. White II, 61, died Thursday, June 11, 2015.
Mr. White owned the Avalon Tattoo Shop for 30 years and had worked at Giant Eagle for 12 years. He was a proud Iroquois ancestor of Guyasuta.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary White; his mother, Lucille W. Snyder; his father-in-law, Frank; his brother-in-law, Aaron Skinner; his brother and sister-in-law, Fritz and Elaine Snyder; three foster children, Jonathan, Malia and Beau; four nieces and nephews, Amber and Kevin Frushour, Jessica and Randy Young; and six grandnephews and grandnieces, Angie, Lily and Ben Frushour, Cole, Garrett and Dylan Young.
Friends are invited to join at the statue of Guyasuta and George Washington atop Mt. Washington (Coal Hill), PA on Wednesday, July 22, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. for a memorial service. The Duquesne Incline is the nearest landmark. Arrangements were made by D'Alessandro Funeral Home and Crematory, Lawrenceville.
Mave Victoria Geddis, Esq., 89, of Bellevue, died Friday, July 9, 2015.
Ms. Geddis was an attorney in Bellevue for 37 years. She was a longtime member of Greenstone United Methodist Church in Avalon.
She is survived by three nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Sarah Geddis; and her brother, Brian Geddis.

Mary Margaret "Aunt Mary" Kerner, 85, of Avalon, died Saturday, July 11, 2015.
Ms. Kerner was retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
She is survived by four siblings, Ann Haddad, Buzzy Kerner and his wife Carol, Jean Wolfe and her husband Kenneth and Sr. Mary Joan Kerner, CDP, of Kingston, MA; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and a dear friend, Carl Robinson. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Abraham Haddad.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Wednesday. Burial was in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery. Jerome Grunnagle Jr.
Jerome Francis Grunnagle Jr. died Saturday, July 11, 2015.
He is survived by two children, Jerome Grunnagle III and his partner Trey and Mei Lin; their mother, Li; his parents, Jerome and Ruth Pinkerton Grunnagle; and three sisters, Linda L. Grunnagle, Suzanne Gott and Mary B. Barlow.

Cyril Francis Kurtz, 86, of Blairs Corners, Knox, PA, died Sunday, July 12, 2015.
Mr. Kurtz attended St. Mary and Kenmawr elementary schools, Stowe High School and through USAFI, Lasalle Extension University. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea during that conflict. He worked as a bus driver for Mt. Nazareth Convent and as a crane operator for Des Moines Steel Fabrication Co. He held several accounting and management positions at Trion Air Cleaning Systems, Knox Glass Container Corp., US Steel and Wolf's Den Campground. He also operated Kurtz Accounting Service from home since 1970.
He is survived by his wife, Zora Sokolovich Kurtz; seven children, Mary Kurtz Klinger and her husband James of Harrisburg, Susan Kurtz Batson and her husband W. Brayuton "Buck" of Avalon, Theresa Kurtz and her husband Rick Chew of Natrona Heights, Cyril George Kurtz and his wife Chang Kum Cha "Hyun Hee" of Augusta, GA, Adelle Kurtz Benjelloun and her husband Najib of Mechanicsburg, PA, Cynthia Kurtz and her husband Paul Fernhout of Edinburg, NY, and Beverly Kurtz Folmer and her husband James of Germantown, MD; two sisters, Anna Kurtz Janney and Grace Kurtz Konchar; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Kathy Wurms Kurtz; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Richard Sr. and Anna Cecilia Daley Kurtz; and six siblings, Mary Agnes Kurtz, Marcella Kurtz Patton, Jane Kurtz Fischer, Laura Kurtz Wray, George Richard Kurtz Jr., and Thomas H. Kurtz.
Friends were received at Faller Funeral Home, Fryburg, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Friday, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Fryburg, with Rev. D.G.
