Robert Schafers
Robert H. Schafers, 84, of Kennedy Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 in Ohio Valley Hospital.
Mr. Schafers was retired from Alcosan with 28 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Bosetti Schafers; six children, Nancy Schafers of Bellevue, Carol Hufnagel and her husband Nicholas of Moon Township, Mary Lou Barone and her husband Gary of Moon Township, Robert Schafers Jr. of Oakdale, William Schafers and his wife Suzanne of Raleigh, NC and Deborah Schafers of Emsworth; his sister, Suzanne Temple and her husband Brady of New Brighton; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Hufnagel, Michael and Kelly Schafers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marion Grant Schafers; his sister, Elizabeth Mulroy; and his first wife, Anna Mae Tinker Schafers.
Friends were received at Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home. A mass was held in St. Malachy Church on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to Partners For Quality, Inc., 250 Clever Rd., McKees Rocks, PA 15136.

Robert Ireland
Robert W. Ireland, 61, of Brighton Heights, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
Mr. Ireland was the retired owner of Du-Rite Painting Contractors.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ireland; four children, Patrick Ireland, Lisa Caudle, Jennifer Reilly and Michelle Popp; his sister, Nancy Lyscik; and six grandchildren, Brenna, Paul, Haley and Christian Reilly, Chance Caudle and John Patrick Ireland. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Ireland.
Friends were received at Stephen M. Brady Funeral Home, North Side, where services were held on Saturday. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the family.

Walter Wendt II
Walter B. "Tex" "Ace" Wendt II, 72, of Ben Avon, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pfeiffer Wendt; three children, Bill Wendt, Jody Keyser Hoenke and her husband Clyde and Keith Wendt and his wife Sharon; six grandchildren, Mark and Joshua Keyser, Kaylee and Kyler Wendt, C.J. Hoenke and Emy Slaney; and his companion, Clarence. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Jean Wendt; and his mother, Jean Wassum.
Memorial services were held in Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon on Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to his church at 7501 Church Ave., Ben Avon, PA 15202. Arrangements were made by McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon.

Carol Young
Carol Joan Shaffer Young, 64, of Emsworth, formerly of Glenfield and wife of the late William Young Jr., died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011.
Mrs. Young was a certified nurse's assistant at Caring Heights for 11 years. She was a 1965 graduate of Hopewell High School. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and reading.
She is survived by four children, Melinda Shenck and her husband Robin of Carlisle, PA, Robert Young and his wife Susan Roe of Neville Island, Diana Frederick and her husband Steven and Christopher Young, all of Emsworth; her mother, Delores Hoch Shaffer of Beaver; and her sister-in-law, Laretta Shaffer of Aliquippa. She was preceded in death by her father, William Shaffer; and two brothers, Donald Shaffer and Gerald Young.
Friends were received at Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home until the time of services on Saturday. Burial was private in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Regis Cerny
Regis A. Cerny, 89, of Bellevue, husband of the late Mary Andolina Cerny, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011.
He is survived by four children, Margaret R. Brawdy and her husband Norman, Guy A. Cerny and his wife Kathy, Gale A. Rezner and her husband Walt and Charles J. Cerny and his wife Maureen; his sister, Elva Silay; four grandchildren, Jeff Cerny, Dawn Rezner, Guy Cerny and Bryan Cerny; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Margaret M. Cerny; and three siblings, Helen Eberz, Edward and Robert Cerny.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue, where a blessing service was held on Monday. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Ave., Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222-1207.

William Duty
William R. Duty died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
Mr. Duty was a retired teacher from the Pittsburgh Public Schools, where he taught at Allegheny and Langley high schools. He was a founding member of Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jones Duty; four children, Garrett J. Duty and his wife Patty, Kathryn L. Greenberg and her husband Rich of Bethesda, MD, Robert J. Duty and his wife Beth and Rebecca L. Freyvogel and her husband Rodgers; two siblings, Joseph Duty and his wife Jean and Marilyn Duty of California; and eight grandchildren, William, Trevor, Morgan, Olivia, Michael, Ronni, Sam and Jack.
Friends were received at O'Brien Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in St. Cyril of Alexandria Church on Thursday. Memorial donations are suggested to the Salvation Army.

Kenneth Bentz
Kenneth H. Bentz, 60, of Avalon, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
Mr. Bentz served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a millwright and a member of Local Union #2235.
He is survived by three siblings, Kevin Bentz and his wife Joy Lassack, Karen Harris and her husband James and Margaret Joyce and her husband Ray; and nephews and a niece, Westin and Colson Bentz, James and Jeffrey Harris and Christine Mentessanne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. and Geraldine Bentz; and his nephew, David Parker.
A memorial service was held in the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon, on Thursday. Burial was in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

Kevin Smith
Kevin W. Smith, formerly of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Metzger Smith; his father, Robert Smith and his wife Patricia Babeaux; two sisters, Karen Tedesco and her husband Thomas and Kathleen Smith; his niece, Kristy Angel Smith; and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Dick.
Friends were received at O'Brien Funeral Home, North Side, until the time of a prayer service on Thursday.

Nancy Trondle
Nancy Zentgraf Trondle, 78, of Ben Avon died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.
She is survived by her husband, William F. Trondle; four children, Ann Trondle-Price and her husband Brian, Larry Trondle and his wife Shelley, Lynn Trondle and Hilary Pavlik; two brothers, Henry and William Zentgraf; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Chelsea,Rob, Neil and Aaron; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Zentgraf.
Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon. Services and burial were private.
