Simon James Matela
Simon James Matela, 20, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, after a brief illness.
He was born in Sewickley on June 18, 1998, to Abigail Matela and Christopher Kitner.
Simon was a 2016 graduate of Avonworth High School and was studying Creative Writing at Chatham University.
He was a compassionate friend and devoted to his family. Simon had an immense heart and always had the consideration of others in mind. He was wise, funny, extremely resilient, and his unique voice and perspective shone in his brilliant writing.
Simon is survived by his mother, Abigail Matela; and father, Christopher Kitner and Missy (Conely); his brother, Oliver Mazie; and stepfather, Martin Mazie; sister, Ella; grandparents, Jacqueline and John Matela and Mary Lynn and Fred Kitner; aunts and uncles, Eunice and Gavin (Matela), Melissa and Nathan (Graff), Maggie and Ed (Hyp); and cousins, Esmé, Indiana, Lillian, Ian, and Max.
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

John J. Victoria
John J. Victoria, 89, of Ross Township, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.
He was a resident of Holy Family Manor.
John was the son of the late Charles and Rose Victoria; husband of the late Mildred (Ott) Victoria; preceded in death by his sisters, Eleanor Caruso and Catherine Detisch; and by brothers, Robert and Joseph Victoria.
He is survived by his sister, Beatrice Stetan; and a brother, Rev. Anthony Victoria; as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was a 30-year member of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus #1400, was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion.
