Letters to the Editor

NO QUICK FIX

Editor:

I would like to respond to the Jan. 28 letter from Kevin Yurkovich.

I do not know where Mr. Yurkovich got his information that the borough paid $29,496.80 for a design for an “unsafe bridge.” The consultants were paid to explore alternate detours for the closed Herron Avenue Bridge, including the possible implementation of a temporary structure.

Like most professionals, they do a job and expect to get paid. This was not a quick-fix look at possibilities and took many hours of exploration by various engineers. When all possible choices were complete there was, unfortunately, no quick or economical substitute for building a new structure.

Emsworth Borough Council in conjunction with PennDOT are continuing to work to achieve a solution to the Herron Avenue Bridge closure.
