After a 5-0 start to the 2017-18 season, the Avonworth girls’ basketball team finds itself on a bit of a downslide, with four losses coming over the last five games.

The most recent loss occurred this past Tuesday, when the Lady ‘Lopes dropped a 55-42 decision to Keystone Oaks in non-section play.

Avonworth fell behind early in the first quarter, but a pair of three-pointers by Lily Tedesco allowed the ‘Lopes to pull into a 10-10 tie with 2:33 left in the period. Harris Robinson scored on a drive to the hoop but the Eagles closed out the quarter with a 7-2 run to lead 19-12.

A three-ball by Harris Robinson and a basket in transition by Grace O’Brien helped the Antelopes to cut into the lead, but Keystone Oaks capitalized on a turn-over by Avonworth to claim a 22-17 lead. Hayden Robinson scored, going coast to coast in transition, and followed with a score in the lane to cut the Lady ‘Lopes’ deficit to one with 1:35 left in the quarter.

The Eagles missed on a pair of free throws to keep their lead at 22-21 but Anastasia Heinold knocked down a three-pointer off of an inbounds pass under the Antelopes’ basket just before the buzzer sounded to put Avonworth in front 24-22 at the half.

Hunter Robinson and Nicole Costa combined for seven points in the third quarter to lead the offense for Avonworth, but Keystone Oaks claimed an 18-10 point advantage in the period to lead 40-34.

The Eagles seemed to have a little more left in the tank in the fourth quarter, as they produced a 13-2 run to take a 17-point lead at 53-36. Baskets by Hayden Robinson, Costa and Harris Robinson came in a 6-2 run by Avonworth down the stretch to put the final at 55-42.

Hayden Robinson finished with 12 points, followed by Harris Robinson with eight, Tedesco with seven and Costa with five points.
