Kilbuck slide house burns

A Kilbuck house condemned after this spring’s landslides burned to the ground early Thursday morning.

The landslides above Old Camp Horne Road in Kilbuck damaged several homes and other structures. Efforts to stabilize the hillside have been progressing, according to township secretary Harry Dilmore, but hinged on the demolition of the house at the very top of the hill, which had been pushed off its foundation. Grant funds had been secured and the township was waiting for asbestos test results in order to demolish the building.

Area firefighters were called to the house about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, and had to contend with a steep, muddy hillside to fight the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
