Flame-a-lopes are WPIAL champs

The Northgate - Avonworth swim team walked away from the WPIAL championships held at Pitt last Saturday with a boatload of medals, as the girls’ team was named WPIAL champs, and the boys’ team placed second.

A number of individual and team first place wins propelled the girls into the title. Among the first-place wins: 200 free relay, Isabella Salerno, Angie Patarini, Anna Neiss, Karen Siddoway;400 free relay, Salerno, Kaylee Madey, Neiss, Siddoway; 200 and 100 free, Siddoway

The majority of both the girls’ and the boys’ teams now advance to state competition at Kinney Natatorium, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA, running March 12-16

Coach Jesse McKelvey noted, “This is the biggest state team to-date, qualifying all three relays -- both boys’ and girls’ -- and a number of individual events, as well.
