Fire damages 3 homes

Fire was billowing out the front of a North School Street home when firefighters from throughout the area were dispatched to Avalon late Thursday morning.

No one was injured in the blaze, according to Avalon Fire Chief Chuck Berie. Police Chief Tom Kokoski said that one woman was at home in the most badly damaged house, but she ran out the back of the home and called for help. People and pets also were at home in the building to the left, but they were all safely evacuated and that house received some fire damage to the side. The house to the right of where the fire started was badly damaged.

The cause of the fire and estimates of damage are still being determined.
