Election results

A final determination of primary election results by the Allegheny County elections department will make a difference in one local race.

Five candidates were seeking both parties’ nomination for four seats on the Avonworth School Board. The preliminary vote counts immediately following the election indicated that the same four candidates -- Patrick Stewart, Vicki Carlson, Renee Daniels Simmons and Sandra Bolain -- had been nominated on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, with incumbent Beau Blaser losing the GOP nomination to Simmons by just one vote, 255-254.

The new results posted by the county on Monday totaled Blaser’s Republican votes at 257, while Simmons’ tally remained at 254.

The change will put Blaser on the GOP ballot in the fall and creates a contest to be decided by voters in November.
