Boy Scout Troop 321 has added another Eagle Scout to its extensive list of those who have risen to the highest level in scouting.

Isaac George of Ben Avon recently was recognized for his achievements in an honor court held recently at Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church in Ohio Township.

Isacc's Eagle project centered on upgrading the library at his home church, Bellefield Presbyterian, in Oakland.

His work began after noticing that collection at the church library had been thinned. Staff members had boxed the unneeded books, but had no plans for them, so Isaac found places where he could donate them.

"I donated 21 boxes of old books, re-cataloged over 700 books, and made the library space more accessible for the congregation. At least 200 hours went into the project, in total," Isaac said.

The accessibility part of his project took up much of that 200 hours.

Isaac explains, "Previously, the entire library was located in the church basement, out of view of most congregants. I moved to the main floor the holdings that would be of more general interest so that parishioners would be likely to notice the books that would be of greater interest."

Using a re-purposed cabinet door, he then designed display shelves for special promotions of books. Finally, the old catalog was known to just a few individuals and eventually was misplaced, so he and another scout created a "cloud based" catalog which now makes the titles available online.

The work was worth it to him, not only in reaching the pinnacle of scouting following seven years as a Boy Scout and five as a Cub, but also in realizing the value of his project for others. "The greatest feeling of accomplishment occurred to me when I tracked down 24 books which were logged under the wrong category and when I finally finished the list of books. I felt like I was able to truly help a place that has done so much for me throughout the years."

Isaac said he was assisted by family members and volunteers from the church, as well as his scoutmaster, John Weingartner.

The son of Charles and Susan George, Isaac will attend the University of Pittsburgh where he will major in chemical engineering
