Crime fighting cameras

Police Chief Beaver Micklos asked Ben Avon Council to consider installing cameras in various locations in the borough. He said they are quite sophisticated, and do not involve a lot of cost once they are up. He mentioned in particular an LPR – license plate reader – that focuses on reading license plates.

Micklos told council about a burglar who was caught after having broken into Holy Family Institute and Sacred Heart in Emsworth. With the help of cameras in that area that had caught him on video, and had specifically focused on the plate of his car that was parked in the vicinity, he was captured. Eventually, he was also linked to several other crimes in the area.

Council president Earl Bohn asked Mic Wrbas to work with the chief to learn more about the cameras. Micklos said the ultimate goal is to tie all of the communities together with the cameras.
