Emsworth Council held a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Thursday, Dec. 21, in anticipation of the Center Avenue Bridge opening on Friday, Dec. 22, well ahead of the construction deadline of April 2018.

The bridge is owned by Port Authority of Allegheny County. It was closed in February 2017 to make major repairs to improve the safety of the bridge and to enable the removal of weight restrictions.

In a statement from the borough, officials said “Emsworth Council wants to thank the Port Authority for making it a priority to repair the bridge. Mosites Contracting was the contractor for the job. We are pleased that the contractor was able to complete the work earlier than expected.

“Mayor Dee Quinn took a personal interest in the project by keeping in contact with the Port Authority over the last six years to impress on them the importance of keeping this community connected with a properly functioning bridge. Port Authority invested approximately $1.2 million in the project.”
