Ben Avon paving

Ben Avon Council member David Stoeckle said at Tuesday’s regular council meeting that Gateway Engineers received nine bids for the borough’s 2018 street paving project, and the low one came from Independent Enterprises Inc at $387,038.75.

Because the bid is lower than the cost estimatedby the engineers, the borough will be able to pave all of the streets included in the base bid, plus three others.

Ben Avon has never used the firm before, but public works foreman Dale Regrut said the company is highly recommended by Gateway. Council voted unanimously to award the bid to Independent Enterprises Inc. Earl Bohn and Ken Opipery were absent.

Leading the list of streets scheduled for repair in the coming months are Brighton Road from Breading to Route 65, Courtney Way from Church to Brighton, lower Dalzell from Church to Brighton, and Dickson from Woodland to Route 65.
