Battle 'til the end

Last night's high school football games went full force into the final moments of the games, unlike past weeks when the local teams' fates were pretty much decided shortly after half time.

Avonworth pulled out a win over Brentwood, 13-6.

Despite Brentwood picking up a dozen penalties in the first quarter alone, both teams remained scoreless until Jimmy Zubik snatched an interception and returned it for a touchdown. The score put the 'Lopes ahead 7-0 at the half.

Quarterback Tommy Turnbull connected with Ben Kramer from 4 yards out for Avonworth's second TD.

Northgate showed enthusiasm and more than a bit of promise as the Flames faced South Park, losing by a score of only 13-7.

All of the scoring action took place in the second half. The Flames got on the board first when quarterback Joe Barker ran 45 yards into the end zone. Pat Carr's kick put the Flames ahead 7-0.

South Park scored on the very next drive, and picked up another TD in the fourth quarter to win the game.
