Ballfield permitting

A new permitting process will be in place for groups wanting to use ballfields in Avalon this year.

Council members said at their meeting Tuesday that the new permit procedure will allow the borough to enter into an enforceable contract with groups wanting to use the field, and give the borough manager the authority to both grant and revoke permits.

Council member Ralph Cortese voted against the new procedure because he viewed it as being unfair to long-standing field users, but other officials said that it simply created rules for obtaining a permit and authorized decisions by the borough manager rather than council on who received permits.
