Avonworth personnel

Several motions concerning personnel were approved by the Avonworth School Board during the July meeting. Approved were:

The transfer of five sick days for Brittany Rene Mills, speech and language teacher, which were accumulated during her employment with the Fox Chapel Area School District.

The letter of resignation from Elaine Tierney, high school learning support teacher, retroactive to June 25.

Tessa Babcock as a fourth grade teacher, commencing Aug. 17.

Sara Knable as a half-time elementary art teacher, commencing Aug. 17.

Jill Shumaker as a half-time computer science teacher, commencing Aug. 17.

The creation of two full-time school security officer positions. Superintendent Tom Ralston stated that those positions might not be staffed by the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.

“It’s imperative we get the right people, with the correct training and the right temperament in place,” he said.

The board solicitor added that school police need to be court approved by a judge, which would add some additional time to the hiring process.
