Avon Park closing

Ben Avon’s Avon Park off Perrysville Avenue will close Monday so that a buried pipeline can be inspected and repaired if necessary.

Borough officials received word Wednesday that work would begin April 22, and could take until the beginning of June to be completed.

Borough secretary Terrie Patsch said the Buckeye Pipeline is buried some 18 feet below ground, so borough council members felt it would be dangerous to keep the park open with such a significant excavation on site. The line is owned by Buckeye Partners, a major transporter of liquid petroleum products in the United States. The inspection is required by law to ensure the line is in good condition.

If the work is completed early, Ben Avon will announce the park’s re-opening.
