Avalon grants

Avalon Council approved several resolutions related to grants -- both accepted and projected -- to fund various work in the borough.

Council ratified the acceptance of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) bid specification for the demolition of 423 Florence Ave., from Ken Reilly Contracting in the amount of $20,500. The grant covers $18,500 of the cost, with the borough paying the extra $2,000.

Council also ratified awarding a contract for handicapped access at the Avalon Park playground to Satira Construction, Inc. A CDBG grant will pay $8,000 of the total $13,950 cost, with the borough making up the $5,950 shortfall.

Council also adopted resolutions to apply for future CDBG grants for projects that include ADA playground surface improvements at Avalon Community Park, the pool house and the continuation of sidewalk ramps, as well as improvements to the South Birmingham Avenue playground.
